Residential Adoption of Best Landscape Management Practices: Effects of Outreach to Reduce Non-Point Source Pollution

چکیده
Urban waterways degradation due to runoff from residential areas can be reduced by adopting best management practices (BMPs) for irrigation, fertilizer, and pesticide use. Although stormwater urban has been studied extensively, we focus on single-family land use specifically. Outreach individual households may have a measurable impact since decisions are being made here. We surveyed evaluate the effectiveness of education outreach campaigns self-reported water chemicals evaluated whether behaviors were reflected in quality quantity draining study before after efforts. Our research was conducted California, which Mediterranean climate with distinct wet dry periods. Runoff landscapes during season enters undiluted rainwater, making this particularly detrimental receiving waters. No significant differences behavior BMP adoption campaign found. These results not atypical explained several factors including population approach survey, lag times between effects, need critical threshold met effects measurable.

متن کاملThe Adoption of Best Management Practices to Reduce Agricultural Water Contamination
Nonpoint source water pollution generated by agricultural production is considered a major environmental issue in the United States and Europe. One strategy in the United States has been to adopt various measures, called best management practices (BMPs), to reduce water pollution. Our research addresses legal institutions and the applied use of BMPs, and discusses compensatory payments to reduc...

In the UK, the recycling of sewage sludge to land is expected to double by 2006 but the security of this route is threatened by environmental concerns and health scares. Strategic investment is needed to ensure sustainable and secure sludge recycling outlets. At present, the security of this landbank for sludge recycling is determined by legislation relating to nutrient rather than potentially ...

Farming imposes unenthusiastic externalities upon society. It effects by differ‐ ent sources such as loss of biodiversity, land erosion, nutrient overflow, more water usage and pesticides. Optimistic externalities include respect of nature, independence, free enterprise, and the quality of air. Natural methods decrease some of these costs. It has been proposed that organic farming can reduce th...

Nonpoint source pollution control and stormwater management are two objectives in managing mixed land use watersheds like those in New Jersey. Various best management practices (BMPs) have been developed and implemented to achieve both objectives. This study assesses the cost-effectiveness of selected BMPs for agricultural nonpoint source pollution control and stormwater management in the Nesha...
